Advanced Drilling Engineering

Description

This course examines the advanced engineering principles and design methodologies required for modern drilling operations. Students will analyze the technical and economic factors controlling drilling costs, alongside concepts for drilling performance evaluation and the optimization of operational parameters.
Key topics include design concepts for drillstring and bottom-hole assembly (BHA) configurations, as well as techniques for effective deviation control. The curriculum introduces comprehensive design concepts for directional, horizontal, and multilateral wells, with a strong focus on diagnosing and solving engineering challenges unique to these complex well architectures. Additionally, the course addresses the design considerations and applications of contemporary drilling technologies, including underbalanced drilling (UBD) and managed pressure drilling (MPD).
